Bulbophyllum planiplexum J.J.Verm., from section Polymeres, is a patent growing epiphyte found in the lower montane forest of New Guinea (c.1600). Section Polymeres is massive, with 115 known species in New Guinea alone, and it is morphologically diverse as well. This species is characterized by a non-branching rhyzome with alternating parallel flattened and slightly recurved pseudobulbs, a plant that absolutely dwarfs the flower and if you don't go looking for the flowers, which are produced from bracts at the base of pseudobulbs and under the leaves, you may never even know they are there... Plants are free flowering throughout the year and flowers last 4-5 days.
