The native range of this species is Nepal to Japan (S. Kyushu) and Indo-China, Malesia. It is a subshrub and grows primarily in the subtropical biome. It is used as a medicine.

Uses: 

Acute hepatitis, nephritis, edema, amoebic dysentery, hemorrhoids (whole tree).

Distribution: 

Vinh Phu, Nghe An. The tree grows naturally in humid places along forests, roadsides, and wastelands, at an altitude of 300-1,800 m.
