Description:
Tufted, pendant, subterete, striated, several noded, white sheathed stems carrying alternate, fleshy, oblong, acute leaves and has a dry winter and a wet spring and summer. The longlasting, fragrant sweetly floral scented flowers are found from February through June on short to 7.5 cm, single flowered inflorescence that arise from the nodes of leafless canes.
Distribution:
Cambodia, China (Guangdong (Hong Kong, Luofu Shan), Guangxi, SW Guizhou, Hainan (Baisha), S Yunnan (Mengla, Simao)), Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam (Cao Bằng, Hà Giang, Tam Đảo, Vĩnh Phú).
Ecological:
Epiphytic on tree trunks in mountain forests, lithophytic on rocks in forests; 500-1600 m.
Flowering times:
Bloom in Spring-Summer.
Cultivation:
Dendrobium are generally easy and rewarding plants to grow and will succeed in any free draining mix. Most love to grow mounted – on a stick or even in a tree.

pH Range: 5.5 to 6.5
Soil Range: Bark to Bark
Water Range: Dry to Moist.
Chemical composition and pharmacological:
Dendrobium loddigesii Rolfe (a Chinese medicine), 3 constituents were identified. They are shihunidine, shihunine and dendrophenol (4,4'- dihydroxy-3,3',5-trimethoxybibenzyl). Chemical reactions showed that shihunidine was derived from shihunine during isolation. Shihunidine and shihunine were shown to be inhibitors of Na+, K+-ATPase of the rat kidney.
Uses:
Tonic. Treatment of impotence, kidney damage, poor new service.
