The native range of this species is Himalaya to S. China and Indo-China. It is a liana and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

Uses:
The roots and stems are used as medicine to relieve pain and treat conditions such as rheumatism and postpartum ailments; they also serve as an antidote for various toxins (including food poisoning, lacquer poisoning, and snakebites) and are used to treat fever and malaria. The roots are also used to treat irregular menstruation, while the leaves are used to treat snakebites.
Distribution:
Widely distributed in areas including Vinh Phuc (Tam Dao), Hanoi (Ba Vi), Quang Tri, Da Nang, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh, and Kien Giang (Phu Quoc Island). It grows naturally in evergreen forests at altitudes of 200–1,200 meters.
Flowering and fruiting seasons:
April–August; October–December.
