The native range of this species is Indo-China to Peninsula Malaysia, E. Jawa to Lesser Sunda Islands (Bali). It is a shrub or tree and grows primarly in the wet tropical biome(s).

In Thailand, decoction of roots is used as medicine to reduce fever, treat flatulence, stomach pain, food poisoning; Also used to soothe headaches and bronchitis.
