its native range is W. & Central Malesia.

Latinh Name: 

Bulbophyllum cleistogamum Ridl.

Synonym:

Bulbophyllum nieuwenhuisii J.J.Sm.

Bulbophyllum salebrosum J.J.Sm.

English Name:

The Self-Fertilizing Bulbophyllum 

Description: 

Growing epiphyte and occasional lithophyte with a rhizome with to 2.5 cm between each, cylindric, conical, curved pseudobulb with a single, apical, leathery, erect, dark green, oblong to oblong-elliptic, gradually narrowing below into the channeled, petiolate base leaf that blooms on a basal, erect, terete, 20 to 60 cm long, single flowered inflorescence with several tubular sheaths and triangular floral bracts that holds the wide opening, odor-less, flower above the leaves.   

Distribution:

Borneo, Malaya, Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatera.

Ecological:

In podosol forests on rocks and trunks of trees at elevations of 400 to 500 m. 

Flowering times:

Blooms in the summer.

Flower size:

4.5 cm.


Cultivation:

Keep plant in warm temperatures. Keep moist in summer seasons and do not allow mix to dry, in winter keep the mix slight dry and reduce watering. Keep good air movement to avoid fungal growth. Keep plants in shade. Pot plants in sphagnum moss, fine bark, or mounted. Plant requires an open medium.
